W&M have been performing several R&D projects for the Office of Naval Research and the Department of Homeland Security in the areas of naval sonar and radar equipment; detection, prediction, and mitigation of waterborne hazards; simulation and modeling for rerouting of commercial vessels in the US seaports in the event of an emergency; and education and training in Naval Bases.
